Harvest time is always a happy time.. Your crop was a success and you're ready to harvest the plants you've tended to for the previous weeks or even months. Although it's a happy time it's also still a lot of work and depending on what plants you've been growing harvesting can be a very tedious and time consuming task.
To help you make your harvesting job more efficient and easier we've decided to stock a wide range of harvesting tools and equipment to help you out. You'll find trimmers, trim trays, drying racks, clippers, storage devices, humidity control satchels, humidifiers and so much more. Having the correct equipment during harvest is essential for a professionally finished product.
When harvesting herbs, flowers and other botanicals be careful of mold forming on your precious harvest. Once mold starts growing on your herbs while they are drying it can sometimes be near impossible to fix. It spreads extremely quickly and if untreated it can destroy you entire harvest within days, even hours. When drying herbs we always recommend doing the following:
Once picked and trimmed use a drying rack to firstly dry out your herbs, flowers or botanicals. When initially picked the plant will still have a lot of water within it so drying it out after harvest helps preserve it and prevents it going moldy or turning into a rotting goo. Drying racks are a great solution for drying herbs as they work great and they're also collapsible so they don't take up much space when not in use. They are made from a fine mesh which helps fresh air reach the entire surface area of the herb ensuring you get an even drying process. They usually come in multi levels as well so they are very space efficient. We recommend hanging them in a well ventilated space and avoid any sunlight or artificial light to reach the drying herbs.
Once the herbs are dried you can then begin the curing process. This involves placing the herbs and botanicals in an airtight container. From there open up the container 2-3 times a day to let out any excess moisture. This will help cure the herbs as well as prevents any chance of mold from forming. By curing herbs your final product will have a better aroma, flavour and potency - all in all a better final product.
A great trick is to use a humidity pack within the container as well. Boveda humidity packs are very popular for this purpose. They are essentially a small packet of a liquid which absorbs moisture. The liquid within the satchel is designed to only absorb moisture when there is an excess amount within the container. For example the 62% boveda packs (ideal for herbs) will keep your air within the airtight container at a 62% humidity level. They also come in other percentages for example the 58% boveda satchels which are ideal for keeping cigars / tobacco fresh.
